About Our Doctor
Dr. Tina N. Tillis is a native of Florida, born in Tallahassee.  She is a Board-Certified Ophthalmologist and Fellowship-trained Glaucoma Specialist. She has been practicing since 1993. As the daughter of teachers there was never a question of whether she was going to college, but which college.  She attended Howard University on a full National Merit Scholarship where she graduated in the top 1% of her class.  She lettered in sports while there and she was chosen to be Miss Liberal Arts and Second-Runner up Miss Howard. She went on to attend medical school at Yale University in New Haven, CT. She completed her internship in Internal Medicine at Brown University in Providence, RI.  Her ophthalmic research Fellowships were at The Eye Research Institute of Retina and Harvard in Boston, Massachusetts and the National Institutes of Health in Bethesda, MD. Her Ophthalmic residency was done at the Barnes-Jewish Hospital of Washington University in St. Louis, MO.  She remained at Washington University after being chosen to do their first 2-year (rather than 1-year) research and clinical fellowship in Glaucoma.

After completing her education she practiced as an Ophthalmologist specializing in Glaucoma in Tallahassee for six years. She then practiced in Warner Robins, Georgia as the only fellowship-trained Glaucoma Specialist in the area. In 2002 she moved to Jacksonville to join a local private practice. After 6 months, she accepted an academic position of Assistant Professor and Chief of the Glaucoma Service at the University of Florida at Jacksonville.   She held that position for 8 years.  While there she developed the glaucoma service from scratch into a well-respected and viable practice in Jacksonville. She also played a key role in the development of the first ophthalmic residency program at UF Shands.  She has received numerous awards including being named one of  “America’s Top Ophthalmologists” for the past 5 years. More recently she was named one of the “Leading Physicians of the World”.
